October is here, and you can feel the energy all around East Village! Living at ALX means being right in the middle of the action, and with Petco Park just steps away, the postseason buzz is especially exciting as the Padres advance to the NLDS. Beyond baseball, fall brings cooler evenings, pumpkin patches, seasonal events, and plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy San Diego. Keep reading for a few of our favorite ways to make the most of October close to home!

Grill & Chill
We closed out September the best way we know how—with good food and even better company! The grills were blazing with burgers, bratwurts, hot dogs, and veggie burgers, plus all the toppings, chips, cookies, raffles, and so many ALX residents joining the fun. A special thanks to AT&T for their support. Thank you to everyone who came out to Grill & Chill and made it such a great night!

Fresh focaccia dreams are made of this. Lucca in East Village is a specialty Italian sandwich shop serving sandwiches stacked with imported Italian meats on fresh, house-made focaccia. Stop by 905 J St. for your next lunch obsession. They’re open Monday–Saturday from 10:30 AM–7 PM and Sunday from 10:30 AM–3 PM.
Taste of East Village
Come hungry! Taste of East Village returns Wednesday, October 14 and Thursday, October 15 from 4–8 PM, inviting foodies to eat, sip, and stroll their way through the neighborhood. More than 30 local restaurants will be serving up bites and sips ranging from appetizers and entrées to desserts and drinks. Grab your Taste Passport at check-in and make your way through one of East Village’s favorite culinary traditions. Tickets are available for one or both nights, so get yours and come taste the neighborhood!

Día de Los Muertos
Día de Los Muertos festivities return to Old Town San Diego beginning October 1 and culminating in a three-day celebration from October 31 through November 2. Explore more than 40 unique altars, enjoy art and family-friendly activities at Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, browse the street market, and experience the annual candlelit procession and Catrina Contest. A beautiful way to celebrate tradition, community, and culture in San Diego this fall.
